KISIP receives Gender Action Plan and Climate Change reports from AFD

The National Project Coordination Team (NPCT) recently received key gender mainstreaming and climate change reports from the Agence Française de Development (AFD)

During a brief meeting which was chaired by the National Project Coordinator George Arwa and attended by a team from the Agence Française de Development (AFD) and NPCT, it was noted that the Gender Action Plan (GAP) and Guidelines for Climate Mainstreaming documents will be critical catalysts for enhancing role of women and other marginalized groups in the decision-making processes in matters of Climate Change and Gender Mainstreaming.

KISIP 2 and other key stakeholders including the World Bank are firmly committed to advancing gender equality matters and enhancing climate change considerations in the various interventions being implemented in informal settlements. The documents will be critical to ensuring gender and more so women’s concerns and experiences are factored in during design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation and strategies towards climate friendly intervention are factored in the project.  KISIP2 considers importance of involving women in decision-making as a way of helping to drive the adoption of climate change policies and strengthen mitigation and adaptation efforts by ensuring they benefit all and especially the needs of women. This is in accordance to the requirements of Constitution of Kenya (2010) which guarantees the inclusion of various groups in any development planning including the marginalized groups.
