Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP 1) Project Components

Component 1: Strengthening institutions and program management

This component supports institutional strengthening and capacity building of Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning and the Participating counties as well as development of policies, frameworks, systems and guidelines for slum upgrading.

Component 2: Enhancing tenure security

Supports implementation of the National Land Policy in urban informal settlements through tenure regularization. This involves planning, mapping and surveying of informal settlements; enumeration of beneficiaries, issuance of letters of allotment and titles to individuals or groups

Component 3: Investing in infrastructure and service delivery

Supports provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, foot paths/pedestrian walkways, street and security lighting, vending platforms, solid waste management, storm water drainage, water and sanitation systems, electrification, public parks and green spaces.

Component 4: Planning for urban growth

Supports planning and development of options that will facilitate delivery of land, affordable housing and infrastructure services for future population growth. It supports both policy and development of strategies, standards and guidelines to curb the growth of informal settlements.
