It’s a watershed moment for us, Kilifi residents optimistic as KISIP team verifies safeguards instruments before works commence Kilifi, July 27, 2023

A section of residents living in the six informal settlements within Kilifi County have lauded a move by the Second Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP2) to give a facelift to their habitations.

The residents said the exercise will give them dignity enabling them to contribute to the socio-economic and well-being of society.

“We will ensure smooth implementation of this noble activity since our lives will never be the same again. As residents of Kilifi, we appreciate work done so far,” said Sokoni Ward Member of County Assembly, Ray Katana during a meeting at the county offices.

KISIP2, a key Vision 2030 project being funded by the World Bank and Agence Française de Development (AFD) is also expected to contribute to the affordable housing agenda under implementation by the Government.

The meeting was attended by national project coordination team, county project coordination team, settlement executive committee, Kilifi County chief officer; Housing, among others.

It sought better understanding of the project impacts and mitigation measures proposed by the Consultant, as well as discussing the current status of encroachments in settlements where KISIP1 implemented the Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) during tenure regularization. They are also addressing any outstanding issues that may delay the commencement of works during KISIP2 interventions.

The ongoing RAP and ESIA verification exercise is expected to be carried out in Mtaani, Kisumu Ndogo, Kalolo, Kibaoni, Bayamagonzi and Muyeye informal settlements.
