Kisumu residents gear up for works commencement as KISIP2 staff meet consultants, county officers
Kisumu, Thursday, July 20, 2023
In an effort to ensure seamless implementation of environmental and social safeguards before commencement of works within some informal settlements in Kisumu County, a team from KISIP2 have engaged County Project Coordinating Team (CPCT) from the lakeside town and Consultants in a joint working exercise.
The meeting sought better understanding of the project impacts and mitigation measures proposed by the Consultants, as well as discussing the current status of encroachments in settlements where KISIP1 implemented the Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) during tenure regularization. They are also addressing any outstanding issues that may delay the commencement of works during KISIP2 interventions.
The consultants undertook engineering designs reviews, repackaging of detailed engineering works, preparation of procurement documents and updating Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) reports as well as RAPs.
They have since submitted the final documents as required for verification, critical for this Vision 2030 project.
During the working session, the team also visited Kibuye, Shauri Yako, Shauri Moyo, Bondeni, Manyatta B, Manayatta A, Migosi, Nyawita and Bandani settlements where they interacted with residents.
KISIP2 which is currently supporting approximately 200 informal settlements in 33 counties, is geared towards improvement of these settlements, a move which will see thousands benefit from improved roads network, sustainable water and sanitation facilities, storm water drainage and waste management, security and street lighting and strengthened security of tenure (planning, survey and eventual titling).
