Efforts to fast-track land ownership documentation for residents in informal settlements gained momentum on the second day of a high-level workshop under the Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The workshop, focusing on Sub-Component 1.1, brought together key stakeholders from various government departments involved in the land titling process. During a plenary session, participants engaged in an interactive dialogue aimed at identifying practical solutions and agreeing on a clear roadmap to accelerate the issuance of letters of Allotment by NLC and lease titles by Ministry of Lands in KISIP2-supported settlements.

Speakers at the forum emphasized the importance of accountability and coordination among all actors in the titling process. They urged officers to take full responsibility within their respective mandates to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow.

“We must each take up our roles decisively if we are to deliver secure land tenure to the communities we serve,” one of the facilitators noted, underscoring the need for collaboration across agencies.

By the end of the workshop, stakeholders agreed on a comprehensive blueprint to guide the preparation and issuance of land titles, marking a significant milestone in the project’s implementation.

Sub-component 1.1 of KISIP2 is a critical pillar of the initiative, focusing on strengthening land tenure security for residents of informal settlements. By providing legal ownership documents, the project aims to lay a foundation for sustainable urban development, improved livelihoods, and enhanced access to basic services.

The ongoing workshop is expected to further refine implementation strategies and ensure that the agreed roadmap translates into tangible results for beneficiaries on the ground.
